About 200 betel leaf and water extraction machine (Montu machine) were burnt in the fire. The fire broke out at the barge of Tuhin Mia alias Tuta Mia of Hapania village in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately.
Locals said a large number of farmers were on their way home as they could not bear the scorching heat around 12 noon. So there weren't many people in the field at the time and it wasn't possible to get the fire under control. As a result, the entire betel leaf and the machine used for irrigation were burnt.
According to the affected family sources, their household expenses are spent from the said betel leaf. The general pace of their lives will be disrupted as this source of income is burnt in the fire.
